This deliverable was published as part of a special issue of The Botanical Review (77(4): 327–646) http://link.springer.com/journal/12229/77/4/page/1 which was dedicated to seven papers produced by the PALMS project’s team members. WP1-leader Henrik Balslev was guest editor on this issue. The particular paper referring to WP1 was:

Balslev, H., F. Kahn, B. Millan, J.-C. Svenning, T. Kristiansen, D. Pedersen, & W. Eiserhardt. 2011. Species diversity and growth forms in tropical American palm communities. Doi 10.1007/s12229-011-9084-x. The Botanical Review77: 381-425. (with input from WP2 Kahn, and Partner 7 Peru)

2. A research protocol for palm community studies to be included in overall Project Deliverable 3 (month 18)

This deliverable was published as part of a special issue of Ecología en Bolivia (45(3): 1–115 (http://www.ie-umsa.com/ -press “ver las publicaciones” and go for Ecología en Bolivia vol 45(3)) which was dedicated to eight papers produced by the PALMS project’s team members. WP1 and WP8 team leaders Henrik Balslev and Monica Moraes were editors of this issue. The particular paper referring to WP1 was:

Balslev, H., H. Navarrete, N. Paniagua-Zambrana, D. Pedersen, W. Eiserhardt & T- Kristiansen. 2010. El uso de transectos para el estudio de comunidades de palmas. Ecología en Bolivia45(3): 8-22 (with participation of Partner 8 Navarret, Ecuador, Partner 6, Bolivia Paniagua-Zambrana).

3. Field data uploaded server available through GBIF portal as part of overall Project Deliverable 5 (month 36)

WP1 completed the palm transect data collection in all four involved countries. The data from the transects have all been uploaded on the GBIF web-page (see http://data.gbif.org/datasets/resource/14087). In total 500 transects with georeferenced data on 532,939 palm records have been uploaded and are freely accessible. The location of the transects are shown on the map below taken from the GBIF web-page.

4. Regional analysis of palm-community diversity, the services they may provide, and their use as indicators of ecosystem responses to human impacts as part of overall Project Deliverable 6 (month 60).

This deliverable is under way and will be a chapter in the final book produced by the project which summarises the scientific results obtained in the PALMS project
